GEO & AI SEO Case Study: Two DMSS Clients Receive Measurable Organic Traffic from Leading AI Systems and LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini & Claude), Verified by Google Analytics
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping how users discover brands online. For decades, businesses focused almost exclusively on Google rankings, investing in technical SEO, content marketing and authority building to improve organic visibility. Today, however, a growing number of users begin their research inside conversational AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. Instead of browsing through pages of search results, theyask complete questions and receive synthesized answers, often accompanied by links to external websites. This evolution has introduced a new discipline known as Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), which focuses on improving a brand’s visibility within AI-generated responses.
The challenge for marketers is no longer whether AI search will influence customer behaviour, but whether it can already generate measurable business outcomes. This study addresses that gap using real Google Analytics 4 data from two DMSS clients operating in completely different industries: Xilouris Travel and Zer.gr.

This case study was designed to evaluate whether AI-powered platforms are already functioning as measurable acquisition channels rather than simply information sources. Instead of relying on assumptions or anecdotal observations, the analysis was based exclusively on first-party data collected through Google Analytics 4 (GA4). The study examined referral traffic attributed to AI Assistants across two active DMSS clients during the first months of 2026.
To ensure consistency, the same evaluation framework was applied to both websites. Rather than measuring traffic volume alone, we focused on behavioural and engagement metrics that better reflect user quality and commercial value. Specifically, the analysis included the total number of AI Assistant sessions, engaged sessions, engagement rate, average engagement time and recorded key events. These indicators reveal whether visitors arriving from AI platforms simply viewed a page or actively interacted with the website and completed meaningful actions.
It is important to note that the purpose of this research was not to compare AI traffic with Google Search, paid advertising or other acquisition channels. Instead, our objective was to determine whether AI-generated referrals are already capable of producing measurable engagement and business outcomes. By analysing two companies operating in entirely different industries, we also sought to identify whether this emerging traffic source demonstrates value regardless of sector or customer journey.

Case Study 1: Xilouris Travel
Xilouris Travel operates in the highly competitive travel industry, where the customer journey is typically long and research-intensive. Before booking a trip, travellers often spend days—or even weeks—comparing destinations, reading travel guides, evaluating itineraries and researching travel agencies. As conversational AI becomes increasingly integrated into this decision-making process, users are beginning to rely on platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude to gather information, compare options and discover trusted travel providers, making AI visibility an increasingly important component of digital acquisition.
During the analysis period, Google Analytics 4 recorded 738 AI Assistant sessions for Xilouris Travel, including 416 engaged sessions, resulting in an engagement rate of 56.37%. Visitors arriving through AI platforms also generated 34 key events, while spending an average of 2 minutes and 50 seconds actively engaging with the website. Rather than appearing as an isolated traffic spike, AI referrals were consistently recorded throughout the measurement period, indicating that conversational AI had evolved into a recurring and measurable source of organic discovery for the business.
The behavioural data suggests that these visitors were actively researching travel services rather than casually browsing content. The high engagement rate, combined with the average session duration and recorded key events, demonstrates that users arriving through AI Assistants were exploring destinations, interacting with travel-related content and progressing through meaningful stages of the customer journey. For a business operating in a consideration-driven industry such as tourism, these metrics are particularly significant, as they indicate that AI-powered discovery is capable of attracting qualified users who are genuinely evaluating travel options rather than generating low-quality informational traffic.
Case Study 2: Zer.gr
Zer.gr specialises in refurbished smartphones and consumer electronics, a market where purchasing decisions are heavily influenced by trust, product quality, warranty coverage and price comparisons. Consumers rarely purchase a refurbished device without conducting thorough research, often comparing multiple retailers before making a final decision. As conversational AI becomes increasingly integrated into this research process, users are now asking platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude detailed questions about refurbished devices, reliable retailers and purchasing recommendations instead of relying exclusively on traditional search engines.
During the analysis period, Google Analytics 4 recorded 377 AI Assistant sessions for Zer.gr, including 177 engaged sessions, resulting in an engagement rate of 46.95%. While the overall traffic volume was lower than that of Xilouris Travel, the behavioural metrics paint a particularly compelling picture. AI-generated visitors completed 76 key events, generated 3,660 total events, achieved a 9.28% Session Key Event Rate and averaged 9.71 events per session. These figures indicate that visitors arriving through AI platforms were not simply landing on the website—they actively browsed products, explored multiple pages and completed measurable actions throughout their journey.

This behaviour suggests that AI referrals in the consumer electronics sector may represent users with stronger commercial intent. Unlike informational searches, which often occur at the beginning of the customer journey, many AI interactions appear to take place when users are actively evaluating retailers, comparing product options or validating a purchasing decision. As a result, the quality of these visits may prove to be more valuable than traffic volume alone. For Zer.gr, the data demonstrates that AI-powered discovery is already capable of delivering highly engaged users who interact meaningfully with the website and contribute to measurable business outcomes.
Comparative Analysis
Taken together, these two case studies demonstrate that AI referral traffic should not be evaluated solely by session volume, but by the quality of the users it brings to a website. While Xilouris Travel generated a higher number of AI Assistant sessions, reflecting the research-intensive nature of the travel industry, Zer.gr recorded stronger conversion-related signals, indicating that users arriving through AI platforms were often further along in the purchase journey. Despite operating in entirely different sectors, both businesses experienced meaningful engagement from AI-generated referrals, reinforcing the idea that conversational AI is rapidly evolving into a measurable organic acquisition channel rather than simply an experimental source of traffic.
Beyond the individual metrics, the findings highlight a broader trend. As users increasingly rely on AI assistants to research products, services and businesses, companies that invest in authoritative content, topical expertise and structured information are becoming more visible across emerging AI-powered search environments. The consistent engagement observed in both case studies suggests that AI referrals are capable of attracting highly qualified users who actively interact with website content instead of passively consuming information.
